Super Simple Repurposed Trick-or-Treat Bag

October 27, 2010

We are lucky to get many wonderful hand-me-downs from the girls’ older cousins.  In the bag this time was a pair of orange and black striped pants.  That’s not something Boo would ever wear (not purple!), and for some reason I couldn’t stop thinking about turning them into a bag for trick-or-treating.  So I did and it was simple and fun!

Here’s how to do it:

Take a pair of kid’s pants and turn them inside out.

Sew a seam straight across the bottom just above where the legs divide.  (Try not to sew a wrinkle in them like I did!)

Trim off the pant legs.

Cut two strips down the length of the pant legs, each about 1.5 inches wide.  For each strip, fold the edges into the middle and then fold in half and sew up the edge.

Pin the handles into place and sew them securely onto the bag.

Cut out the tags but do not be in such a hurry that you cut a hole in the bag!

Done!  This is a great way to repurpose kid’s pants and in our house the kids never tire of playing with bags.  Let me know if you have any questions and if you try the project, how it turns out for you!
